What are we talking about when we talk about reading?
The busy urban rhythm nowadays has been constantly compressing and fragmenting our personal time. Serious reading seems a luxurious thing to do. Mainstream media follows the trend by generating increasingly shorter text/videos in abundance, which has exacerbated our distractions. Although mobile device may seem convenient and fun compared to paper books, it is impossible to stay focused when new messages keep popping up from everywhere. We need a little physicality and simplicity to re-adjust our reading habits. But how can we still add the welcomed communal interactions inherent in new media to traditional paper readings?
"Spring" aims to combine augmented reality technology with physical book reading to extend the two-dimensional plane of physical books to a virtual 3D world through online sharing of book excerpts, reviews, and emotions, and thus to create a whole new paper-book reading experience.
